1. Class and Club ANNOUNCEMENTS/meetings:

¨    The following AP exam will take place Wed., 5/13:  AP English Language students must be seated by 7:45 am & will take the AP exam @ 8am.  Students will return to SBHS by 1pm for afternoon classes.

¨    Today is the last day to buy Prom tickets & get the meal!  Otherwise, tickets are available the rest of the week during lunches that DO NOT include the dinner for $25.

¨    There will be a sign-up mtg. for all girls interested in playing field hockey next fall in Caf 1 on Wed., 5/13 @ 3:30.

¨    Fall Cheerleading informational mtg. will be held Thurs., 5/14 @ 3:30 in Caf 3 for all those interested in trying out in the fall.

¨    There is info in Guidance on the Miss VT Teen USA pageant for young women ages 14-18.  6/1 deadline for app.  See Peg if you are interested.

¨    There will be an important TIE French Orientation mtg. on 5/18 @ 7PM in room 115 for all students going to France.  Be sure that we have the following before the mtg.; your final copy of one-page long typed, double spaced French letter with pictures of your family, pets, a 2” x 2” picture of you, your name as it will appear on a passport or a copy of the passport, your& your parents’ email addresses & cell phone numbers for  future communication.

¨    Balfour will be in the lobby during lunches on Fri., 5/15 with information for sophomores who are interested in purchasing class rings.

¨    Caps and Gowns for seniors will be given out on Wed., June 3rd during lunches, cost is $20.

¨    The American Legion is sponsoring a Cadet Training Program to be held 6/21-6/26 @ the Police Academy, Pittsford, VT.  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age & currently a junior or senior in HS.  For more info, call 802-223-7131 or email alvthq@verizon.net.  Deadline to apply is 5/15.

¨    Attn. juniors & seniors between the ages of 16 & 19 (as of 7/31/09): An International Youth Leadership Retreat (www.miraclecorners.org) will be held here in VT & in NYC 7/31-8/5.  This retreat is for young people who are interested in developing leadership skills, global friendships & creating plans to foster local change.  Scholarships are available.  For more info please contact Dr. Catherine DeLeo @ 802-626-6475 or catherine.deleo@lyndonstate.edu   Deadline to apply is 5/15.

¨    Attn. students who will graduate in 2011 or later: The Office of the Governor is looking to appoint a student to the State Board of Education for a 2 year term, beginning 7/1/09.  Please see Peg in Guidance for an application & an info sheet about the Board.  Deadline for applications to be returned is 5/22.

¨    There are still a number of students in grades 9-11 who need to see their counselor to resolve schedule conflicts for next year.  Check the lists posted in the lobby for your name.  Students should report to Guidance during any free period or before school.  9th grade students, check the list for your name & go see your counselor. 

 

2. Scholarship Info:

¨    The Vermont Funeral Directors Association Scholarship - Four (4) $500 scholarships for students who, by furthering their education, show a strong commitment to serving families in times of difficulty.  Applications must be received by 5/15.

¨    The Bill Stone SB Rotary Club Scholarship ($1000) for senior who intends to continue his/her education in a vocational/technical field & is enrolled in a not more than two-year program, requires financial assistance & is active in community service, 5/15 deadline.

¨    The Nancy Jenkins Real Estate Scholarship (two $1000 scholarships)  for students who have financial needs, may not receive scholarships based on skills or academics, & show a strong desire to succeed in college are highly encouraged to apply, 5/15 deadline.
