June 5 Announcements

¨    The AP French Language re-test will take place on Fri., 6/6 @ 8:40 AM in room 138, the Library Annex.  Please see Mrs. McDonald if you have questions.

¨    Seniors may pick up caps & gowns in the lobby during lunches on Thurs., 6/5.  Cost is $19 (NOT $18 as originally published) cash or check payable to Balfour.

¨    Attn. Juniors & Seniors: LAST CALL – The Hall Communications Radio Group has teamed up with the Burlington Auto Group to reward one lucky junior or senior high school student in VT or NY with a brand new car @ the end of the 2008 school year. “Driving for Excellence” will reward students based on their academic performance during the 1st three marking periods of the 07-08 school year.  Students will earn 2 entries for the car for each “A” received, 1 for each “B” and 3 for perfect attendance.  The contest closes 6/8/08.  Please see Peg in Guidance for more info.

¨    Get ready for the end of year Coffeehouse blowout extravaganza Fri., 6/6 @ a new venue, the outdoor band shell @ Dorset Park.  From 4-7pm, come enjoy free music & food.  There is still time for performers to sign-up in the main office for this one of a kind end of year event!

¨    “Save Tibet” t-shirts go on sale in the lobby during exam week.  Cost is $15 and all profits go to Tibet.

¨    Attn. seniors:  The Rotary Club of South Burlington is generously sponsoring a scholarship for a senior who is in need of financial support & will be continuing his/her vocational education & training by enrolling in a two-year or less program.  Examples of fields of study would include, but not be limited to, farm management technology, cosmetology, automotive technology, culinary arts or hospitality management, technical health careers, building trades, secretarial & childcare.  Deadline is 6/5 @ 4 p.m.  Please see Peg in Guidance for more info.

¨    The Library is doing Food for Fines for the month of June.  Bring in a food item for the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and have a fine deleted.  Food donations can be used for $2.00 service charges only. Also remember to check for any overdue library books and bring them back before exams.

HAVE NO EXPERIENCE?

 

 

Come be part of the new Teen Employment Center being run by The Boys & Girls Club

in the University Mall.

 

This new initiative is being offered to help teens be successful in their first job.  With a curriculum designed from national Boys & Girls Club programs, the 4H R.I.S.E program, Community College of Vermont, and collaborations with Vermont Department of Labor, the Teen Employment Center offers youth a great resource for developing the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace. 

 

Topics of discussion range from work place expectations and appearance to understanding your paycheck and financial literacy.  We cover all aspects of having your first job in the 5 week program and will work to find you a job when you are done.

 

Upon completion of the course, which requires participants attend ALL sessions, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Community College of Vermont and a stipend of $150 from Chittenden Bank! That’s right… we will pay you to go through this course!

 

If you want help finding a job and building the skills all employers are looking for, sign up for the Teen Employment Center today!  Classes run Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at 4pm at The Living Room Teen Center in The University Mall and are filled on a first come first serve basis.  Sessions are limited to 8-10 people.

May 30 Announcements

¨    Interested in information security or digital forensics?  Join the Cisco Networking class in room 141, period 3 today for a presentation by Gary Kessler, director of Champlain College’s Computer & Digital Forensics program.  Mr. Kessler will talk about information security as an emerging career field and give you some insight in what it takes to become an information security professional.  See Mr. Barner for details.

¨    If experiencing different cultures is part of your life plan, come to Ms. Robinson’s rm. # 208 periods 2, 3, 6, 7, or 8 on Fri., 5/30 & learn about an incredible opportunity to earn high school credit @ VIS (Vermont Intracultural Semester) in Ladakh, high in the Himalayas.  Tess Townsend & Curtis Koran, the program creator, will be giving a colorful presentation on this extraordinary opportunity.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
